What Is 10K Gold?
10 karat gold is 41.7% pure gold (10 parts gold out of 24 total parts). The remaining 58.3% consists of alloy metals including copper, silver, zinc, and nickel. This high alloy content makes 10K the most durable and scratch-resistant of all standard gold karats.
10K is the minimum karat that can legally be marketed and sold as "gold" in the United States. It is the most affordable option for real gold jewelry and is commonly used in class rings, affordable necklaces, bracelets, and everyday wear pieces.

Worked example: A 10K class ring weighing 12 grams with gold at $5,300 per troy ounce. 12 ÷ 31.1035 = 0.3858 troy ounces. 0.3858 × $5,300 × 0.417 = $852.77 melt value.
